NFL 2018-19 Review:
How is it going everyone, I'm OG and today we will take a look at the
2018 NFL Season and get ready for the Superbowl! Before I start, I just want to
say it's great to be back to write on my favorite sport, after 2 years that I
wrote only about wrestling, I decided to mix it up a little bit and to do also
articles about more sport such as basketball and football.
1st I would like to say something about my Packers, as a
die-hard Packer fan, for the Pack that wasn't the best season at all and not a
season that we hoped for, we experienced ups and downs from left to right, it
was like a rollercoaster, McCarthy got fired mid-season and there were also
trades and also there were a bunch of heartbreaking fumbles in important game
situations, not a season to remember for sure. But, I believe in 2019 we will
return to a playoff contention.
Now let's start the review!
The 2018 season in my opinion was an outstanding season, there were some
incredible upsets on the way and the intensity was raised, I would like to
point out some very positive notes from this season
1.Cleveland Browns
What they have done this season is inspiring! They not only improved
their record, they started a great part of a rebuilding as they managed to take
some strong teams to the limit this season, and they began an incredible and
inspiring road. I mean, 2017 they had 0 wins and 16 losses all season! And in
this season they began a revolution as they managed to get near the playoff
contention and won 7 games out of 16, overall near the 50% mark. I believe that
they will continue to make waves and that they can be a better team in years to
come.
2. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Drew has proven time and time again why he's one of the all-time greats.
This season it was proven more than any other season in my opinion, he broke
record by record! And he did it all with class and with great work ethic.
Here are some of the records he broke
1. He broke his own passing
percentage record for the season as he went for a 74.4%
2. In week 7, Drew Brees
joined the 500 club in a win against the Ravens, and with that win, Drew Brees
has defeated all 32 teams in the NFL.
3. In week 5, Drew Brees
became the all-time leading passer in a game against the Redskins, as he threw
for 363 yards and went for an overall 72,103 yards in his career! Passing the
legendary Peyton Manning!
And he has a chance to break more records
before he calls it a career! That's very impressive. And he's 40 years old!
He's playing elite at age of 40! That's very impressive.
Now that we are on the middle of this
review, here are some of the end season Awards.
Rookie of the year: Baker Mayerfield, Quarterback, Cleveland
Browns
Baker came to a team that in the previous year won zero games, he came
to them and made a great way, the Browns became from being the worst team in
the NFL to be close to .50% of winning and they played better. And Baker had a
great season overall, proving critics and doubters wrong on the way. He got his
1st chance as he replaced Tyrod Taylor who got injured in the middle
of a game against the New York Jets. Down 14-0. Came Baker and he led the team
to a historic win, ending their 19 winless streak. Baker finished his debut
game with 17 out of 23 passes for 201 yards. Baker started for the 1st
time in Cleveland's next game, making him the 30th quarterback to
start for Cleveland Browns since 1999. He continued to play sensational and his
experience in the NFL just got bigger and bigger. He had some great games on
the way, like the game against the Atlanta Falcons (he threw 3 touchdowns
without interception against them with a 151.2 passing ratio). He finished the season with 27 touchdowns
(passing Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson for most touchdowns in a rookie
season) and with 14 interceptions. 63% of completed passes, 310 completed
passes out of 486 attempts and 3725 passing yards. A great season to kick off
his NFL Career.
[Honorable mentions: Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens /
Shaquan Barkley, Running Back, New York Giants]
Most Improved team of the year: New Orleans Saints
What the Saints have done this season is amazing, they did a large step
ahead. Record wise, they improved by 2 wins, but I am not talking about this, I
am talking about the huge progress they did throughout the season, they have
pushed the envelope higher, they looked like a legit title contender, they have
one of the best offensive teams this season. Ranked 1st in rushing
touchdowns, and ranked 8th in overall in total yards in the regular
season (pass & rush combined). And
their offense ranked 3rd in points. Along with the stats, they had an incredible
10-0 streak that started from week 2. They finished the season ranked 1st
in the NFC after they finished the season with a 13-3 record. They also earned
a 1st round bye, on the Divisional round, the Saints beat the
Philadelphia Eagles, earned a ticket to the NFC Conference finals. On the NFC
Conference finals, they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in a very controversial
fashion. Overall the Saints had a great season, Drew Brees played in a
"God-Like" level, the offense flowed very well and I honestly believe
if they weren't eliminated by the Rams that they would have been a SuperBowl
champs.
Honorable Mentions: Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens had an incredible season, they managed to get to the wild
card in a very good season, they had one of the best defensive teams this
season, they ranked 1st in fewest yards allowed. And ranked 9th
on offense. They managed to finish the season with a 10-6 record, and along
with it they had Lamar Jackson, who had a good rookie season and he's going to
lead the Ravens to the future from what it looks like. The Ravens got to the
divisional round where they lost to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Defensive Player of the year: Khalil Mack, Defensive End, Chicago
Bears
Khalil had an incredible season overall, since he got traded by the
Oakland Raiders to the Bears, he took charge of their defense and was their
leader. He helped the team to improve from being a bellow .50 team into a legit
contender, his stats this season was phenomenal, he had 12.5 sacks, 6 forced
fumbles and 2 recovered fumbles and a pick 6
Most Valuable Player: Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback, Kansas City
Chiefs
What Patrick has done this season is tremendous! I mean he's only in his
2nd season and he has taken over the league and he did it with
insane stats which are his career's highs. In 16 season games that he played
and started, he had 66% of completed passes this season (383 out of 580), 113.8
passing ratio, and almost 5100 passing yards! 5097 to be exact. And the most
impressive stat is that he had overall 50 touchdown passes! Yes, you heard it
right 50! Amazing numbers. And he led the Chiefs close to a SuperBowl, as his
team lost to New England Patriots in the Conference round in Overtime. All that
happened in his 2nd season! He's just 23 years old, imagine how
great he can become if he continues with that impressive pace!
Now that we finished with the awards, here is my Super Bowl
Prediction for the upcoming Super Bowl!
So, I believe that this Super Bowl will be one of the tightest
SUPERBOWL Games ever, the two teams will go down to the final blow, I think
it'll end in a Field Goal, in the end I believe that the two QBs will pass the
300 Yards, and that the game will may go to overtime, not sure. If not to
overtime so it'll at least end in the last drive. I believe that it'll end by a
three-point difference, and that the Rams will win the Super Bowl, and the MVP
will be Jared Goff/Aaron Donald. I also believe that it'll be Tom Brady's last
SuperBowl game in his career, yes I believe that. I mean Tom will be remembered
as a legend and one of the greats if not the great. But I think that the
Patriots time is up, the league getting tougher and teams getting stronger.
Overall thoughts, I truly believe this season was one of the competitive
seasons in recent memory, and one of the shocking too, we had some great teams
that made a large improvement, and young players that risen recently in a very
strong pace. I also think that 2018's draft was one of the strongest in the
last decade. So the rookies of this year probably will be heard in the near
future even more. Yes, 2018 season was great. I had so much fun waking up at 3
at the morning to see some football.
So, that's a wrap folks, thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed.
